We recently spotted this article: An HR Lesson From Steve Jobs: If You Want Change Agents, Hire Pirates.

Arg-g-g!!  There are two sides to this golden doubloon. The first question to answer is “Do you want Pirates and do Pirate-types fit your culture?”  Secondly, if you think that you want a Pirate, keep in mind that a candidate won’t become a real Pirate by wearing a tri-cornered hat, an eye-patch and a sword.  Even if the candidate has a wooden leg to augment the Pirate “look”, a hiring manager can’t be sure that they’re selecting a Pirate.  Keep in mind that Pirates used to sail in wooden ships; now they attack from sophisticated, high-speed gun boats. Similarly, hiring used to be based on gut feel—“I’ll know a good one when I see one,”— but now selection processes are more advanced.   Read more...
